Lazy Grandma G......Post Views 8412

Sorry, Grandma G is acting like a lazy Grandma.  Some days I just don't feel like blogging.  And that is the truth.
I should be excited--tomorrow evening I am off to Las Vegas and then the Grand Canyon.  I am excited, but not about packing.  That seems to get more complicated rather than easier.  So if I don't blog tomorrow it is because the evening and night will be taken up with travel and settling into our hotel in Vegas.  But do check back Wed. or Thurs. to see what adventures I am having with my family.

Sunday was an interesting day.   It was my first experience with driving in morning fog on my way to church service. The weather was for up to 70 degrees, but that usually happens sometime in the afternoon.

Even then the scenery was pretty....Especially being aware that it was snowing in northern WI at that time.

 Great idea for advertising.
Too bad that isn't MY vehicle.

We celebrated Pastor appreciation Sunday.  Pastors Mike and Mike.  (There are a LOT of Mikes out here.)
It must have been quite the celebration because the smoke alarms went off and squealed for a very long, annoying time when eventually the fire department arrived.  The building we are in is quite large and, honestly, we hadn't done anything to cause the alarms to be triggered.  Some folks said they saw smoke on the other side of the building.  At some point while we were all trying to enjoy our cake we were told to leave the building.  Actually it was a relief to be away from the alarms squealing.   I left before I found out if indeed there was a fire somewhere in the building.

On the way home I stopped to check out a grocery store I hadn't been in before.  They had cheap pumpkins.  My grown up kids all like the roasted seeds so I decided to buy some pumpkins to roast seeds and take to them as a gift when we meet.

Roasted, seasoned pumpkin seeds......Yum!!

Wanna know how much your friendly personal computer  knows about you?   I went to check on possible job applications and this is what came up.  How did this job application site know that I am interested in Grand Canyon tours?

Magnificent.....Post Views 8376

Mt. Hood, Vancouver, WA  10/18/13
      Need I say anything more??

Friday passed quite quickly.  Though I was feeling a bit flu sick I kept an appointment to get a fresh perm and my nails done for my upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon.  Yeah!  It was a 2+1/2 session.  Later in the day I followed up with a chiropractor appointment (still dealing with a shoulder injury) and then to Freddy's for some shopping.  That is when this gorgeous view of Mt. Hood emerged.  The weather today was absolutely perfect.
In the evening Deb stopped over for a short visit.  She got to see my house in the usual messy stage that it is in when I'm not out to impress anyone.  I don't think she was too shocked.  We talked a bit about Medicare supplements and our soon trip to Vegas/Grand Canyon.  All my 7 children, 2 spouses, 5 grandchildren, one exchange student and Louie will be there with me.  it will be a wonderful excursion.  Not all the events and schedule are quite clear, but it should be a controlled fun time.   Check back for updates and pictures, pictures, pictures.

This is very yummy this time of year......

My Schedule Undone.....Post Views 8327

Grandma G's early morning look......

I was going to have a well ordered day. (Really)  A leisurely morning, then get ready for an appointment with a cardiologist early afternoon.  Deb gave me directions how to get to the location.  After the appointment I was going to the Mall for an hour and then on to Mic's last cheering event at the Freshman football game.
All went well until the doctor's office called to apologize that the doctor had an emergency procedure to perform and I needed to reschedule.  OK.  Turns out I need to see a different specialist than the one I had picked.  I need someone in electrophysiology.  I had an ablation done 2 years ago and that is the department I need to check in with.   I am doing well, just need to have back up out here to make sure I stay in good health.  No problem rescheduling, except......
Not having that appointment to go to threw off  the day's schedule AND my focus.   Now What?  Took me 2 hours to figure out how to fill those hours--I did get in some arm exercises I have been neglecting---then it was time to go to Mic's cheering event.  Guess the schedule picked up from there.  Crazy.  Such predicaments.
It was a beautiful day for sitting at a football game. Mic did a great job at cheering.  Debbie and I discussed some last minutes plans for our family trip to the Grand Canyon coming up soon.  I also told her about my latest dentist appointment--that I have to decide whether to have a back upper molar pulled or have the endodondist try to save it for me.  He recommends it being pulled.  I told Deb I have a goal of keeping all my teeth until I die.  She responded that I can keep the tooth--have the dentist put it in a little bag and I can take it home and keep it as long as I like.  My daughter is SO clever.

                             Mic----far left standing on top----

Beautiful Fall Day....Post Views 8308

I had a slow start today after the past busy days.  I did get over to pick up my new business cards.  Yeah!!

I got post card sized ones and
smaller business card sizes.
They are seeds to plant for lots of
 future students.  Yeah!!

After getting back home I put on my walking shoes and headed out into the beautiful sunshine.

After walking for 50 minutes it was time for tea on the deck----and apples slices with caramel.

Also the perfect day to fall decorate and give my 7 gnomes a place to occupy. (Weird, I also have 7 kids.)  Several neighbors out for a walk stopped by to admire (I think) the decorations and to chat a bit.  Fun.

Busy days.....Post Views 8296

Sunday night, grandson, Zach, stayed overnight with me in order to do a routine task that needs to be done here in the Pacific Northwest---power washing the green mildew off the deck.   It wasn't that way when I moved in a year ago, but it is now. The deck is on the north side of the house.  There is another deck on the south side. That one has no mildew.  I asked Zach about that.  He commented that the morning sun would dry off the one on the south side, but the north doesn't get sun until late in the afternoon.....so moisture coats the boards and mildew grows and grows.  My grandson is SO smart.
Where is Zach?
Where is Zach?
Can you find Zach---
power washing the deck?
Monday was a busy day.  While Zach was occupied with the deck I was occupied at my desk inside figuring paperwork, then a quick drive to Fred Meyers to take advantage of "door buster" specials that ended at 1PM.  I found a family of gnomes that need a home.  Maybe they'll stay and maybe not.  Gnomes are a big subculture out here in the PNW. (Must be all those mildewy north side decks.)
Then by the time I drove Zach home, came back for a piano lesson and some dinner I was plum tuckered out.

Tuesday was another fully engaged day.  Water aerobics, get cleaned up, more phone calls and paperwork, faxing a medical release form, (I always have to review how to do that), a 20 minute drive to the endodontist, 30 minute appointment to discuss whether a back molar should be pulled or tried to repair, my first hands on experience with VC rush hour traffic, meeting a friend in that area for a snack and conversation, a stop at a different Fred Meyers on the way home, (found a "living corn stalk" to buy), a drive home in the dark, late dinner, filling out forms for a cardiac doctor appointment on Thurs, and watching 2 favorite late reality shows (The Little Couple and The Duggers)----. Well, anyway, that all made me very happy to climb into my cozy bed at 11:45PM.  Good night.

Fun, Funky, Fur tree.......
