Dumplings and Adventures....Post Views....16,097

It's what Grandma G is known for.....dumplings and sour gravy.
Sunday was the day for them....5 loaves of dry bread; 10 lbs of potatoes; a jar of sauerkraut; 4 cans of beef broth; a third cup of lard, cup of flour, 4 tsp of allspice, 4 tablespoons of vinegar...... and one has a meal for 8 dumpling hungry people.....yum....

It's what the Millers and Papa Lou have been waiting a long time for......though, Papa Lou ate only 1/4 of a dumpling.....

We also received a Cribbage Board that day.....the start of a long lasting tournament.   We played Cribbage on our wedding day and like a good wife should.....I won....

Flowers in January.......NICE....

Tuesday we went exploring....looking for the Columbia River...
we found it with the "I-5" bridge in the back ground.  The weather was somewhat warm that day for January, though a bit foggy.

Practicing "selfies"....

Lou trying some buttered beets..
I am still fighting whatever virus I picked up over 2 weeks ago.   I am "up and about" but not full of energy and appetite....have not been to water aerobics since before Christmas...have not "hung out" with my lady friends since then also.....have not played piano, though I have started two young students.

Lou is enjoying being out here and is leisurely working his way back to whatever is normal life for him right now......he enjoys sitting on the porch, watching TV, short trips to the store, short drives to sight-see, and NAPS.....

This has been a good 6 "dumplings and adventures" days in the life of Grandma G.

"Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him all you peoples.  For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever."  (Psalm 117:1&2)

Mid Winter Break of sorts....Post Views....15,784

Today was a lovely, sunny 50 degree day in Vancouver, WA.  I feel much better than yesterday, but still not 100%.  A great day for a mid winter break of watching 8 hours of Star Trek.....oh, yah......4 old one hour episodes and the first newer Star Trek movie.

I did get outside to get my mail from the past 8 days.  (I was missing the sunny San Diego weather since the past 2 days were rainy here.) Today restored my love for this area.

Green grass and "spring" plants in the middle of January.

Inside my house, Mr. Sweet Potato head
has been busy growing.  He even has a tiny sprout near the side of his nose.

I am still busy drinking lots of tea and consuming garlic and purposely taking deep breaths to cough up unwanted matter......hope tomorrow will bring more return to health.
(Burt, Al and Lou)
Back in Wisconsin Burt and Lou are packing and getting ready for their big trip out here to VC.  They are flying through Detroit and are on a possible "bump" list since the flight is oversold to Packer fans coming out to Seattle for Sunday's big game.  They are hoping to be granted some extra flying dollars. We'll find out in the morning.

So, in many ways I am just relaxing today...taking a break....resting from my San Diego trip, recovering from flu and anticipating Lou's arrival tomorrow evening.

This has been a good mid winter break day in the life of Grandma G.

"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation ; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."

Fun and Flu, Oh Yah......Post Views....15,764

Grandma G got caught in sunny California.....oh ya.....must be the flu bug.  I started out with a mild sore throat on Sunday.....stayed that way until this morning....(Thursday).  Now I'm very stuffy and achy.  Been drinking a bunch of black tea, eucalyptus tea, garlic in my soup...lots of water...
This is good timing since I have completed my trip, (flew home yesterday) and Lou doesn't arrive until Saturday evening.....hoping I'm all better by then.

Tuesday I enjoyed a great afternoon with Bill.

 We started with tea at
Jungle Java, a Coffee and Garden Shop in Ocean Beach...

Then it was a walk along Sunset Cliffs.....for the sunset....

Almost a heart shaped sun......

This has been a good 4 fun, flight and flu days in the life of Grandma G.
