Winter Came to Visit....

The weekend blew in some "weather".  Friday we had slight rain outside but the stores had a flood of folks stocking up for the big snow storm coming the next day.   Here in my neighborhood we got about 4 inches overnight.  Debbie's neighborhood got none.  The mountains, of course, got "lots".

Here west of the Cascades winter simply comes to visit, not to stay.  At least by Midwest standards.  By Sunday night most of the snow was gone and all day Monday was a cold rain that cleared away the rest.

I ventured out just a bit on Saturday morning to snap some memories then retreated into the house to wait out the return of milder weather.

Enjoy my "snow memories"

So now we are back to our normal winter of rain, rain, rain.  That's OK, though I'd rather have sun, sun, sun.  At least I can enjoy green grass in February.

I find as time goes on that I need to stay connected to friends and social activities. The more my mind is occupied with these the better I feel about myself and life.  I've had lunch with 3 different friends recently.  Today I sent out Valentine hello's to 40 family members (in 8 text groupings).

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY....
TO ALL MY BLOG FANS!!

This has been a good 10 winter days in the life of Grandma G.

Sky High in 2019!

We have already worked our way through the first month of 2019!  It has been an enjoyable time for me, though I struggle with laziness, lethargy, not wanting to do anything when I am alone. It is something to be worked through with determination. I observe that once I get into an activity or project, that malaise disappears.

My post-Christmas January project is programming the 16 annual GeoLou Schmidt Family Happenings calendar that runs from February to February.  It is always a long process of finding appropriate and fun photos to include, making sure no one or major event is missed, then rushing to finish before a suitable sale ends. (I think I made only 1 mistake this year.) Whew! No wonder I am tired late January.  This year I featured several Louie pictures to remember his life.
I've always spent lots of hours sorting through months of photos. This year I think I have a plan to simplify that.  I hope to copy significant pictures as they emerge into a single file named
2019-01-01-001 so I can find it easily.  Or if I forget I can review the month and file away.....if I don't forget.  Ey?

Having worked through that, it was time to prepare for a long anticipated winter break!  San Diego here I come.  My feet have been earth bound since late September.  Sure is good to get high again!! And watch the plane's shadow flying along side as we leave the Columbia River behind.

I've been having fun  learning how to efficiently use my new Iphone 7. While in flight I tried to untangle and understand the 3 electronic devices I own, not including the camera used to photograph them.  Still have much to learn!

The flight is a quick 2 hours and 20 minutes.  Well, make that an extra 15 minutes for the pilot to abruptly abort the landing close to the runway to avoid landing on top of another plane lingering there.  We had an add-on swing out over the Pacific and back around for a great picture of the Coronado bridge and safe landing on an empty runway.

Granddaughter, Angie, (my Sam) who has lived in southern Cali for the past year has packed up to move to Boulder, CO.  She picked me up from the airport and we hung out together for a couple days.
We took a walk to view the more scenic sites of Carlsbad.....

Next day she took me and cousin Gemma to say goodbye to some old friends.  They weren't too concerned about her leaving Oceanside.

We did to have a farewell
Oceanside
Dairy Queen treat!

After a Thursday sunset beach evening and pizza,
on Friday son Gerry, (Uncle Gerry), Gemma and I gave Angie a ride to the airport for her move to Boulder.  I think I sense a trip to Boulder in the near future.....

Portland with Mt. St. Helen's

We landed into Portland from the northwest.  I got wonderful views I've haven't seen before. Hwy 205 and bridge, Columbia River, Mt. St. Helen's and Rainier overlooking our valley.

Finally back home in "The Couve".

...back home with my new $2.50 San Diego thrift shop treasure, my year round wooden Christmas goose to guard my fireplace.

And a reminder of why I am living in Vancouver...

This has been a good 14 "sky high" days in the life of Grandma G.

"Your love, oh Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. Oh Lord, you preserve both man and beast. How priceless is your unfailing love!  Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings."  (Psalms 36:5-7)
