The Terracotta Army or the "Terracotta Warriors and Horses" is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from approximately the late third century BCE,[1] were discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province. The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Current (2007) estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits nearby Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.[2] Other terracotta non-military figures were also found in other pits and they include officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.

This has been a good "remembering the Terracotta Warriors" day in the life of Grandma G.

Power Washing......Post Views....12,246

Today it was time to get in some outdoor cleaning Pacific Northwest style.   Power washing......
Grandson Jake stayed overnight with me so we could get an early start before the 90 degree afternoon temperature set in.   We did get outside by 9:30.  Already the sun was quite hot.
A power washer machine connects with a garden hose and then the water is fed into gas powered high pressured smaller hose and spout.  It is designed to loosen the dirt, moss and "green stuff" that clings to everything outside in this temperate rain forest.
With having lived here now for a little more that 2 years, my sidewalk, deck and driveway are showing signs of PNW exposure. That plus the management's decree that everyone have their sidewalks power washed by August 1 I figured it was time to do just that.

The project was completed in 3 hours.  Then we were off to a local burger shop for lunch and ......a free blackberry sundae......because the service was slow.....
fresh, local blackberries.....yum!

Jake and I finished our day together with going to the $3 movie.  We cheered when we realized that Godzilla saved the west coast from being destroyed by nuclear power fed giant insects.   Wow.....

This has been a good power washing day in the life of Grandma G.

Close Encounter of the Hippo Kind.....Post Views....12,226

This encounter with the 2 hippos at the Oregon Zoo deserve additional attention.  It was the highlight of my visit.  We had such a close view of these two playing with a big red ball.  They were having such a good time...

This has been a good "hippo encounter" day in the life of Grandma G.

"Look at the behemoth, which I [the Lord] made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.  What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit.  His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron.  He ranks first among the works of God."  (Job 40: 15-19)
