Oh, the Willamette and the Columbia linger on in my mind...
Mt. St. Helen's in the distance....cruising the Columbia.
Osprey nests built on old pilings...
Floating Houses......
Unscheduled docking to get medical help for a sick passenger....they took her off and on to a hospital somewhere.....That gave us 2 extra hours on the river.....
More Floating houses....
A REAL Houseboat......
Hope there is room to park my yacht next to my floating house.....
Wooden power pole......
I always wanted a home site along a riverbank.....
Train crossing
Hawthrone Bridge....
Can you hear the rumble?
Green water tower of
Vancouver, WA....
Look Closely.....
Boat had to wait until the lower level of
Steel Bridge is raised in order to pass through....
Waiting....Captain said it could be 15 minutes
or an hour
Portland "Max" trains passing on upper level....
Train passing through the lower level......
Lower Level being raised for us to pass through.....
Passing under the bridge.....
Lower level going back down.....
Narrator said this is the only bridge like this in the world.....
"Docking"....sure glad the captain knew where it was......
So ends the great Willamette/Columbia River Adventure........
Until early October when Grandma G will again sail the Portland Spirit 60 miles down the Columbia to Astoria, OR where the river empties into the Pacific Ocean......
It's hard to wait, Maties.......
This has been a good 3 "lingering memories" days in the life of Grandma G.
"For this is what the Lord says, 'I will extend peace to her [Jerusalem] like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream'." (Isaiah 66: 12)
