Lots to Catch Up......

No blogging for four days!   I must have a busy life!   Let's see what the pictures say!

Friday, I don't remember what went on, but I did have a trip to the bank.  Found out....

What shovels are used for in the PNW.....

I do remember spending a few hours trying to sort out and organize a ton of paper work.

Saturday I slept in a bit.  Cleaned up the kitchen--it seems to have a tendency to mess up and fill up with dirty dishes until there is no more cupboard space.
The weather was warm and sunny so I pulled several weeds from my gravel "weed proof" yard.  What you see is only the medium ones.  Thousands of tiny ones are hiding among the rocks.   This is about the 1/5 of the area to tend to.
At some time I need to landscape and decide what gorgeous flowers, shrubs and trees to plant.  I want to put in grass on the other back side of the house and thus have a fun little back yard.  Probably next year.

The evening was a big event for me.  My first Hawaiian BBQ and live music show for a Veterans' fund raiser.  I had 2 tickets so invited a  new lady friend from Creekside--invited her at noon that day.  She was glad to go.
Yummy marinated, charcoaled pork and chicken with lo main noodles.  Peach pie.

I was given a white rose from a young male singer, singing, "Teenager in Love".
           Hawaiian pop songs

Sunday I attended a blessed church service.  Afterwards, had lunch with some new friends and then needed to get gas.  After an initial stop with frustrated efforts to get my credit card to work I went on to a different one.
At home I decided on a leisure walk since the weather was warm and sunny.  Great walk.  On the way home I slowed a bit to walk with a lady using a walker.  She knew my name.  I was too embarrassed to ask hers.  The leisurely atmosphere ended when I discovered I locked my house key inside the house.  Oops. What to do?   I remembered the caretakers of the park.  Maybe there would be key in the office.  Walking to their house the lady welcomed me in while stating, "You are the third person this week who locked themselves out of their house. There were 2 earlier this week and I knew someone else would.  These things happen in 3's."  (SO.... it was HER fault I locked myself out.)  Fortunately there was a set of keys in the office.  (I did get a ride on their little mule they drive around in.)
I called Deb to let her know I was leaving to drive to her house.  She asked me to pick up grandson, Zach.  He gave me directions to his house--a route a few miles out of the way and then backtracking.  All part of learning directions.
SO... later it was time to leave Deb's.  Zach wanted a ride to meet a friend in a neighborhood 5-10 miles north---in the dark.  "Grandma, I'll give you directions to get home."   Sure.  Three easy turns ended up with me another 10 miles in the wrong direction--in the dark.  His friend did get on the phone with me and guided me back 10-15 miles to a street I was familiar with.
A rather frustrating day, but ended well enough.

Monday dawned with a surprise cold wind.  (Park Falls, WI showed warmer temperatures than us.)  Spent more time figuring out paperwork.  Had 2 music lessons. Enjoyable.  Worked on laundry during the day and drove over to Deb's to dry it.  Still broken dryer.  We'll make one try later this week to fix it and decide from there.
      FINALLY, caught up on blogging!

This has been 4 good "busy" PNW days in the life of Grandma G.

Red Hats/High Tea/Oops....

Today, Thursday, was the day of our big outing for Red Hats---dress up in our best RH finery and head off to High Tea!   I was really excited, even though late Wednesday afternoon I "had nothing to wear".
THEN....Debbie and Angie showed up with a SURPRISE for me!

Thursday dawned sunny and warm.  After water aerobics all us ladies hurried home to dress for our outing.  I finished donning my red feather boa, grabbed my camera and headed out to meet the other ladies.
On the way to Myrtle's Tea House we saw beautiful scenes of Mt. Saint Helen's---time for photos!   Oops, the camera wouldn't turn on.  OOPS, the camera battery was at home in the charger.  OOPS.  NO PICTURES of the day.   PAINFUL.  13 ladies dressed in all their finery and NO CAMERA.  They consoled me and said there will be other dress up occasions I can get photos.

We had 3 pots of different teas, sorbet to clear our palate, cups of soup, various small sandwiches, and several dainty desserts with chocolate, mint tea.

The afternoon was back to ordinary life which did include a walk in the warm sunshine.

A Columbia River Outing.....

On Tuesday, a friend invited me to join her while she babysat her 2 grandchildren.  It was a beautiful, sunny day here in Vancouver, WA.  She was going to a location called Frenchman's Bar along the Columbia River.  It is across town from where I live, but I am familiar with the main road to there.  It was my first adventure alone that far away.

Wilting a Bit.....

After Saturday's cleaning marathon I was quite tired on Sunday, though I didn't realize at the time.  Sunday was a "temperate climate rain forest day".   Lots of rain.

We had a blessed worship service at our church.  Our pastor then told how he was talking with his 9 years old son one day after school.  The son said, "Dad, I am going to be a doctor when I grow up."  Dad was really pleased to hear that.  Then the son continued, "Or a dinosaur".
In the afternoon I briefly attended the 50th wedding anniversary of a couple here at Creek Side.  It is such a privilege to know couples who have maintained there love and commitment for that long.
THEN the fatigue hit me.  I laid around, snuggled in bed for 2 hours before driving to the Millers.  Deb and Keys just returned from a 10 day trip to New York City and on to Costa Rica.  I enjoyed dinner with them while hearing about their trip, envying their tans, and drying my laundry.

Monday was a not so good Grandma G day.  Wilted a bit.  Had a miserable headache. Worried about money.  Not motivated to get a bunch of paperwork done. No umph to finish organizing "Grandma G's" teaching studio. Too timid to go out and advertise for music students.  Hit a brick wall.   Even Grandma G has a bad day now and then.
But I had a good phone visit with my son, Chuck, from Milwaukee, WI.  Ya!
Did go for a walk in the evening.  PNW trees in the spring.

Somewhere in Portland...

SOMEWHERE in Portland, Angie and I had a mini fun day on April 8.   She had the pictures on her phone and now I have them on my computer and you have them on my blog.  She had to go to the pain clinic for physical therapy for back pain.  We paired that with some PNW fun.

Nothing out of the ordinary went on Friday and Saturday.   Actually, on Saturday I caught  the cleaning bug and vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom, washed dishes, put laundry away, and went for a walk.  That all was out of the ordinary.

This has been 2 good "ordinary" days in the life of Grandma G.
