INDIANA ADVENTURE #3
Tuesday of Indiana week, it was off to a boat ride into the deep dark of Greenspring Caverns in Bedford..........
We saw one of each of these creatures...... the cave can only be accessed by boat......We enjoyed an hour's ride through the cave...
The Myst'ry River is 22 miles long, but only about 3/4 of it is accessible by boat. There is one channel that allows room for a canoe with passengers....if they duck while passing through. Our guide said he did it once but their crew was lost for awhile before they found their way back. The mystery of the river is that they don't know where the underground streams are that feed into the river or where it empties. The water level of the river is only a few feet, but can fill most of the cave after a rain. No excursions are taken at that time.
The "Elephant"....
What you see in the cave with no light.....
What you see in the cave with light.....
At one point in the complete dark the guide banged a seat cushion....it sounded like loud thunder and echoed for almost a minute.....
One lonesome tiny frog.....the guide said he'll sit there without moving for several weeks at a time.......
Back out into the light.....
This has been a good "remembering the deep dark" day in the life of Grandma G.
"You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light." (Psalms 18:28)
