AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY

When it came time to go to the car about 10 PM Gerry, Autumn and I walked back to where the trolley dropped us off.  It would take us close to where Gerry parked the car.
We were waiting for a short while when Autumn said to Gerry, "We should walk. It would be faster."  Thus Gerry checked his electronic devise and announced it would be a mere 6 minute walk, about a quarter of a mile.  Not bad.  I can do that.  Off we go.
And go. And go. And go.  And go.......Only once did I have to run in order not to be struck by fast moving vehicles.  At which point I reminded my son that I am approaching 70 years old and do not run.  That was after walking about 20 minutes.  He offered for me to sit and wait on a curbside (along a quiet street) and wait for him to bring the car.  I said I can go the rest of the way as long as we walk a bit slower.
Sure enough after 35 minutes and 1&1/2 miles we came to our car.  Gerry then conceded that his earlier reading directed him to only the entrance gate to Shelter Island.
All was almost well as we drove down "back streets" to the Interstate......along with about a 1000+ other cars. Took us only about 45 minutes.  Then another 30+ minutes home.    I think it was still July 4th when we got home....
It was a fabulous, bang up San Diego 4th of July.  One I will always remember.  But... one I will not likely repeat.

Happy 4th of July from the White House!!

This has been a good San Diego 4th of July day in the life of Grandma G.
