We are off to explore Crater Lake!
Gram G and Kahana heading out on a 5 hour drive southwest of Portland/Vancouver.
First stop....Roseberg, OR....last sizable town....on to Colliding Rivers where 3 come together. Then onto scenic Hwy.138, about 86 miles and a series of waterfalls.
Toketee Falls
They didn't tell us it was .4 miles straight up and down.....in Hobbit forest....
One huge moss covered boulder.....
time for picnic....
Cloud over Mt. Thielsen....
Life is a bit rustic here....checking into our motel...
Just kidding....
We went more modern...stucco walls and all.....
All the comforts of a Pilot truck stop next door.
Ahhhhh......Monday morning....
frost on the windshield....28 degrees overnight
TIME TO VISIT CRATER LAKE
Entering through the north gate...
frost on the ground at first stop....
Looks like dessert,
but its not.....
6,000 year old pumice rock formed from lava mixed with gas and water. It contains so much gas it floats. Nothing but a few shrubs can grow on it.
Gram G's first view of Crater Lake on a perfect weather morning..
Wizard Island.....
Enjoy beautiful views as we drove along the east rim...
Gram G on top of the world......
"Phantom Ship" rock formation in lake
Gram G's little friend.....posed for pic....
2 hour Trolley tour around the rim....
boat tour and taking people to visit Wizard Island....
We didn't do the boat tour....
a rugged mile down and a more rugged mile back up....
That day...Labor Day... was the last tour of the season....
Gram G's goal these next months....walk rugged hills and do the boat ride next summer.
Oh, yah!!
lunch time....
This has been a good 5 "recalling Crater Lake" days in the life of Grandma G.
"O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens." (Psalms 8: 1)
