Pumpkin Power!.....Post Views...20,600

Friday was senior trip day to
 Hood River, OR.

On the way there we stopped at Multnomah Falls for 30 minutes.

My friend for the day, Carol, and I decided to hike up to the cement bridge for a closer look at the falls.

Carol, who is 76 years old, scurried ahead and took the lead.....she had to wait a couple of times for me to catch my breath.
We made it up and down in the allotted time, even snapping a few pictures.  (Carol is lady in blue.)

Last spring a huge chunk of rock fell from the top and damaged the bridge.  Luckily no one was sightseeing there at the time.

It was on to the Hood River Harvest fest to share in the bounty of the orchards and farms; to check out all the local craft vendors; to indulge in yummy foods.

Scurrying off the vans and on to the fun....

Do you see what I see?

I eyed up the gyro booth, but the hot sun and long line diverted me to the BBQ offer of pulled pork, beans and slaw....

Time to find the just right place to enjoy lunch....

along the Columbia River.....

A kind man, busy carving a pumpkin, allowed me to share his table. Our chatting soon turned to.....pumpkin carving...
He was cordially begrudging the small sized pumpkins that were available to carve.  He likes to carve
GIANT pumpkins.   Turns out he is enjoying the Friday sunshine and river scene before tending to work from 8 to 5 on Saturday.  He is going to carve a 1,430.5 lb pumpkin.

Meet Scott M. Cully.  He has carved giant pumpkins internationally and for a Halloween party of a vice president. Scott told me this giant pumpkin is destined for a Medusa look, he hopes.
Giant pumpkin carving is his hobby.  He is owner of a large blueberry nursery near Eugene, OR.  They ship out hundreds of varies all over the world.   (I refrained from telling him my wild blueberry story from 50 years ago in Wisconsin. The whole story is pretty wild.  One of those believe it or not true stories.  Perhaps I will tell it on this blog someday.)

I asked Scott if I could feature him on my blog.  He said sure, he has never been on a blog before.
Thanks, Scott, for the great visit.  Hope you and your wife become adoring fans.

Did you spot the giant pumpkin in an earlier picture?

More pumpkin power.....This lady is taking her 1,000 lb pumpkin to carve out for a canoe to race the next day.....

By 4 PM it was time for a scenic drive back to Vancouver.

"Bridge of the gods"  across the Columbia River connecting Oregon and Washington.

Friend Carol filled me in on many historical and social facts of this area as we rode along.

She said the Native Americans say there was once a natural rock bridge across the river. Time and earthquakes eroded it.

This has been a good "pumpkin power" day in the life of Grandma G.

"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."  (Genesis 8:22)
