Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow.....Post Views...23, 704

Sunday evening we sat out back of Gerry's and enjoyed a fire.
While enjoying it I smelled something burning (besides the fire in the fire pit).  The aroma lasted a few minutes and I figured something other than the wood had smoldered.
Later in the evening I went to wipe a chunk of dirt off my shirt......Surprise!  It was my shirt that was smoldering!  Sure glad I didn't start burning.

On Monday Gerry offered to take us to Oceanside for lunch at Ruby's on the pier.

Ruby's is at the end of the pier

When walking back after lunch we noticed a group of people watching something over the pier.  Thinking it might be some sea creature we hurried over to observe.  What we saw was a young boy clinging to a boogie board. He had gotten caught in a riptide and was swooped quite far out.  Quickly a rescue vehicle pulled onto the pier.  An over sized surf board was thrown into the water on the opposite side of the pier while a rescuer jumped from our side.  Other rescuers were encouraging the boy to stay calm and simply sit on his board.  The diver swam strongly and swiftly to the boy, got on the large board, pulled the boy on and started swimming to shore as he lay on the board.   The waves were strong but the rescuer soon had the boy to shore.  What a dramatic and successful rescue.

That evening Angie invited Gemma to pack herself into the suitcase to travel back to Portland with us the next morning.

They also made a poster from Angie to thank Uncle Gerry (Bear) for the great time she had with them.

One last evening hanging out together, Gemma, Jude, Angie

Time for goodbyes........amid smiles and lots of Gemma tears.....with promises of more visits together in San Diego and Vancouver, WA.

Gram G and Angie on board to fly north....
a rather  bumpy flight

Arriving into Portland...205 bridge

We had such a nice time of family bonding.  With 19 1st cousins spread out between the Pacific Northwest, southern California and Wisconsin it is a struggle to maintain family unity and familiarity. The younger girl cousins especially relish time with the older girls. Gram G relishes time with all the family!!

This has been a good 2 "sweet sorrow" days in the life of Grandma G.

"Therefore, my brothers [and sisters], you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends."
