From Hot to Cold and Back Again.. (and Journey part 3).....Post Views....26,262

Monday evening friend, Kahana, and Gram G attended a workshop featuring Crater Lake.  Besides being a very enjoyable time, it was well worth the important info that was presented.

Grandson Tyler and I are planning his 12 year old trip there for next summer.  I would have been wrong in setting a date for late June since the north entrance isn't open and maybe not the lodge since it is based on weather conditions.  Also the boat ride on the lake is not available until early July, again based on the weather. And I thought snow was not a factor in my life since I moved from Wisconsin.
Kahana and I are planning a 3 day trip to Crater Lake over the Labor Day weekend.
She also has the goal of visiting ALL the National Parks as time goes on.  I think I need to keep hanging with this lady!!

What does one do at 10:30 PM on a Saturday night when one is bored and there are over-ripe peaches to be used?  Why, one makes peach/blueberry crisp, that is what one does.  Who says Gram G can't party on a Saturday night anymore??  Woo! Hoo!

And come Sunday morning, how about taking those new hiking sandals on a 2 mile walk even before 11AM church service.         Two of my sons bought them for me in thanks for using Ted (SUV) while they were here.
These handy sandals went on 3 other walks this week....2 miles, 1 mile and 2 miles all before the summer heat set in.            Reckon one doesn't need to worry about snow with 3 days of 100 degrees.            So what does one do for an "excessive heat/post traumatic 2 hours + dental session" challenge while burrowed in an air conditioned house?
How about finishing a majestic puzzle of Multnomah Falls?  Gerry started it when he was here 3 weeks ago and its been waiting for attention since.  I think I have found a new souvenir craze.....puzzles of the National Parks I get to visit.  There are at least 10 that are "post visit".  Might take a good Wisconsin snow storm to get them done.  Or maybe several 100 degree days.

Sunday afternoon my DirecTV abruptly froze up. Couldn't get anything but one local station.  After a bunch of untangling wires and uselessly pushing buttons I figured that I probably hadn't paid the bill for a few months and they shut me down.  (I'm still straightening out messes from the card fraud in June.)   There are a few favorite programs I like throughout the week, but the days past alright without them.  Finally on Friday I called.  The nice girl said that all payments were up to date and after some hard to understand directions and questions she reset the signal box from her end.   So all is happy once again in TV land.

Had a little visitor on the back deck.  Second time this summer I got to photograph one.  Right photo shows the size proportion....tiny green speck in the corner.

Friday evening Deb, Jake and doggie, Bentley, slept over since they don't have air conditioning at home.  Keys was here for spaghetti dinner with us.  I enjoyed having family here for the night.  (Sorry, no pic)  (I have a small bowl of spaghetti left over.  I can take a picture of if you are desiring a Gramma G photo...)

This has been a good 4 "hot to cold" days in the life of Grandma G.

"As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."  (Genesis 8:22)

A Day in the Sun......

Going on the RED BUS tour of Glacier Park.......an 8 hour ride through mountains and hair pin curves.  Yikes!!
Kate got the front seat with the driver.  Betty and I had were towards the back.  As the day got warm the top of the bus was taken off so we could stand, look and take pictures.  The day reached 90 or better.  Betsy and I had to take cover in the back--too much sun and heat.
The RED BUS is an historic icon of Glacier.  Lots of fun and lots of scenery.

Travel to Banff Day!!

Hairpin turns

 ____________________________________________________________________
Saying hello to Canada

Passports, please......

And we thought things were big in Texas!!

We made it!!

Today we drove the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier one more time/had a goodbye picnic/bought huckleberry pie/drove 355 miles/left the United States and entered Canada/fought 30 minutes of Calgary traffic/bonded as friends and not just 3 sisters and a niece/arrived at Banff!!

This portion of the trip is for Betty who has ALWAYS wanted to go to Banff!!
And for our Dad who had always talked about retiring in Canada--he didn't realize that goal!

This has been a good travel to Banff day in the life of Grandma G.

(8/20/16)
(I do recall that before we drove the "sun" road the service engine light went on in the car.  We had  much discussion about whether to drive the sun road, but since that was our only option we did.  We also drove the rest of the trip through the Canadian Rockies with that light lit.  We made it.)
