This past weekend has been a busy time for the GeoLou Schmidt family scattered a few thousand miles apart.
Gram G spent some days pulling weeds and trimming the greenery and rose bushes.
The last roses of summer.....

sitting, sitting,
waiting for her true love to return from the sea

In the meantime in a couple thousand miles to the west in Honolulu, brothers Gerry (CA) and Burt (WI) meet up for the Spartan Beast obstacle race
first a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial,
Enthusiastic start of the race.
8 hours later.....
a weary, but victorious finish
Sunday, Gerry went back for another
5 hour MROC race while Burt
slept most of the day.....
On Monday they went swimming with the sharks....no pics, but all limbs intact...

A few thousand miles to the Midwest, grandson (Burt's son) Devin and the "Without Excuse" band lead worship for the town's annual
Flambeau Rama festival in Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Later that day, still in Park Falls, (and Vancouver, WA) Gram G gets this text.
Thanks, Grandma Georgia!
"Tell your dad thanks, too....!"

And come Monday a mere few thousand miles north grandson, Cory (Burt's son) and friend, Becca, enjoy their first anniversary of attending school and living in Alaska.
To celebrate Cory had a close encounter of the moose kind.
Jen, Cory's mom, wrote...
If you look closely you can actually see the imprint of the moose...
I guess I know where God dispatched his angels last night--Cory Schmidt walked away unharmed. So thankful--praise God!
This has been a good 4 "Schmidt Clan living" days in the life of Grandma G.
"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."

The 3 Senior Sisters Cross Country Road Trip revisited......

Day 2...Cross Country....
We arrived in Bemidji, MN at 7:30PM on Tuesday. After missing a turn off that took us 10 miles out of the way we pulled into our motel for the night.
Wednesday morning we were off to adventures at 10:30. We happened upon a memorial to Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe. We also crossed the mighty Mississippi before it became so mighty. (The headwaters is only 20 miles from Bemidji.)
All morning I kept versing Kate and Betsy on how to pronounce Bemidji--"Ba-mid-gee", not Mabibgee, not Beemidbi, not Babidknee. By evening Betsy had it programmed and could enunciate correctly.

Finally the border into North Dakota. I had never been to North Dakota, but have heard mixed reviews about it. Now I would find out for myself. First we encountered RAIN---not really bad rain with giant water drops but dainty little drops falling from a low hanging black dome
At 3 PM we had a backpackers' picnic lunch inside a shelter in a rest area along the way.
We did discover something totally unique to North Dakota---to Rugby, ND to be exact. It is the center of the universe! Or at least the geographical center of North America!
SUNFLOWER FIELDS!!
This has been a good 2nd "3 senior sisters--and later a niece--great cross country road trip" day in the life of Grandma G.
"The Lord will watch over your coming and your going both now and forever more." (Psalm 121:8)

This has been a "many miles traveled" day in the life of Grandma G.
"Where can I go from your Spirit?....if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast." (Psalm 139: 10)
