First Dinner Party.....

Today, Sunday, was my first dinner party here in Vancouver!  Dumplings for  9!  After getting home from a great church service I got busy cooking.  It felt really good to prepare a meal for several people.  That is what I did for many, many years.  It made me feel "at home".
The main focus is dumplings, but included is letting sauerkraut simmer for 3 hours, browning pork in the oven, later adding garlic chunks and caraway seed, and for the Millers, making sour gravy.

ANATOMY OF A BREAD DUMPLING:
Start with 4 large loaves of bread
Set them out for 2 days to dry(mix them)

Break the dry bread into small pieces.
Peal several potatoes, Cut them into small pieces
Blend them in blender until liquid

Mix bread, small amount of salt and potatoes together until the consistency of playdoh

shape into size of baseballs

Boil for half hour in large kettle
Prepare sour gravy
Set out with pork, sour gravy and sauerkraut...

Enjoy Grandma G's first Dinner Party in VC!

Dinner is not complete until all guests guess how many dumplings Grandma G made.  Were there 9, 18, 26, 38, 45, or 52?  Check out the kettle size.  Find out tomorrow how many dumplings!!

I did get a fire going in the fireplace.  Lasted almost 5 hours.  Didn't get a picture.  Next time.
